General Service Medal and The Fort Erie Medal (RARE) identified to Gunner Fergus Scholfield, Welland Canal Field Battery, Battle of Fort Erie June 2, 1866. The Fort Erie Medal being the rarer of the two medals, was given to volunteers who served in the W.T. Robb expedition to Fort Erie by the Welland County Council. The medal was made of silver and produced in a very small quantity. There is one original known that exists in the Glenbow Museum, others being reproduced in 1966 made of white metal and copper. Gunner Fergus Scholfield was wounded below the knee during the engagement. Later his leg was amputated. Mr. Scholfield becomes the Lighthouse Captain in Port Maitland after his military service and receives a long service medal which is not present in this grouping. The ribbons are not correct for the medals. The medals are made of silver and in very good condition.
