Helmet -
M17 Austrian/German Rural Gendarmerie Paramilitary Police Helmet
Item #: YTR751
M17 Austrian/German Rural Gendarmerie Paramilitary Police Helmet. The helmet is missing the liner and chinstrap. Otherwise it is in very good condition. On masking tape affixed to inside front brim is the nomenclature. B&C LITZMANNSTAD 1942 64hA/56. I searched LITZMANNSTAD 1942 and was able to put a possible city name LODZ to the translation. This was a Polish city with a large Jewish population annexed by the Germans in 1942. The helmet also appears to be named to an individual on the inside back rim. I've circled the area. The name is visible but hard to read.
Here is some additional information I was able to pull from the internet.
The string "LITZMANNSTADT 1942 64hA/56" is likely an archival or catalog identifier related to LODZ Ghetto (which the Germans renamed LITMANNSTADT) during the Holocaust in 1942.
The alphanumeric code 64hA/56 serves as a specific file number, reference number, or location marker within a historical archive. It helps catalog specific documents, lists, or photographs related to the ghetto's administration, such as work details, resident lists, or internal correspondence.

Remember what happened to the character "Ralphie" Parker in the classic movie The Christmas Story. He was warned by his teachers and parents about the Daisy Ryder BB Gun.
