Apache Canteen. Very good condition. Showing evidence of wear and age along its rims. A US leather military strap was added as a suspension strap during its use. Measures 6" in diameter and 2 1/4" wide. The weave is tight throughout. Pine pitch was used to seal the weave. The use of using pine pitch was common among Apache tribes. The spout is weaved as an integral part of the canteen showing skill of trade used by the basket maker. The spout is in full form showing no wear or weakness around the rim. Cork stopper present. Both suspension guides are present and intact. A rare late 19th century period piece seldom encountered for your consideration.
